Land and Water
The natural environment of the UAE is rich in resources. Visitors will be able to explore the key minerals, plants and animals found within the region’s diverse landscapes of mountains, deserts, oases and sea, and discover how they have supported the inhabitants for millennia.
People’s lives were shaped by the resources they found, which they learned to use, cultivate and trade. Archaeological and historical material will show how people transformed them: mining, smelting and exporting copper; digging tunnels to channel water through the falaj; developing oasis gardens; domesticating the camel.
Sheikh Zayed recognised that sustainable use of resources was as important today as in the past. He knew that oil was a finite resource. His answer was to pursue diversification and the UAE is now a leader in sustainable development, funding research in alternative energy sources and green technology.
