Traditional values are at the heart of the UAE’s political and cultural life. Sheikh Zayed understood their importance and that they must not be allowed to disappear with modernisation. He recognised the significance of his country’s heritage that had created a strong sense of kinship, hospitality, and of self-reliance.
Visitors will discover this rich cultural heritage, exploring the world of pearl divers and merchants, participating in the arduous journeys that connected the inhabitants of the coast with the villagers of the interior, and appreciate the lives of date cultivators and camel herders, along with many others. This interconnected world will be revealed through individual voices that will bring people’s stories to life, capturing the hardships, the pleasures, and the social values that sustained them.
The display will also highlight the importance of these values in the life of the modern UAE, showing how traditions such as poetry and dance, boat building, camel races, communal decision making in the majlis, and hospitality to outsiders continues to create a strong, unified nation.
